Fall freshman applicants
Students seeking admission to Cardinal Newman High School must complete the following:
 
1.      Submit completed Application with fee. The application serves as registration for the High School Placement Exam.
         (Fee schedule is noted on the application.) Submit the signed Authorization for Release of Records form with
         the application.
 
2.      All applicants for the freshman class must take the High School Placement Exam. The placement test is an    
         evaluation of the student's aptitude and is used as a tool in determining proper course placement. Applicants are
         notified of the testing date.
 
3.      Students who submit their application after April are responsible for obtaining an official school transcript and
         recommendation from the school guidance counselor or principal.
 
4.      The Admission Review Committee begins reviewing completed applications the third week of January. Notification of
         the committee's decision is mailed subsequent to this meeting. Applications completed after February will be reviewed
         on a monthly basis.
 
5.       The successful applicant is one who demonstrates a history of acceptable scholastic achievement and behavior.
          Additionally, the following will be used as criteria in accepting qualified students as freshmen:
               -Catholic students from Catholic elementary schools.
               -Students whose family members attend or have graduated from Cardinal Newman.
               -Catholic students from non-Catholic schools.
               -Non-Catholic students from any Catholic school in the Diocese.
               -Non-Catholic students recommended by clergy and school.
 
Accepted ninth-grade applicants must meet all established registration deadlines or the accepted applicant's place will be given to wait-listed applicants. Accepted ninth-grade students having difficulty meeting established deadlines must contact the Admissions Office at least three days prior to the deadline.
